Description
As the sun dips toward the horizon at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, thousands of tree swallows spiral and wheel in the evening air, herons and egrets drift in from their feeding grounds to roost in the vast marsh, and shorebirds work the mudflats below, fueling up for the next leg of their southward journey.
This guided evening program puts you right in the middle of it all, scanning for plovers and sandpipers as swirling flocks fill the skies above.
If we're lucky, the resident Eastern Whip-poor-wills begin to call as darkness settles over the marsh. It's one of the most memorable birding evenings the North Shore has to offer.
