Field Trip: Kennebunk Plains Birdwatching

Description

Kennebunk Plains is a sandplain grassland and successional stage pitch pine barren owned and managed in part by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and The Nature Conservancy. This area is home to breeding species rarely found elsewhere in New England. We will walk alongside this beautiful grassland to look and listen for grasshopper, clay-colored and vesper Sparrows, Upland sandpiper, and Eastern Meadowlark.

Instructions

Meets at Joppa Flats for van transportation. Bring lunch, water, bug spray, binoculars, and a field guide to birds. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and potentially muddy trails. Participants should expect to walk trails with moderate terrain changes at a slow pace, for a mile or more.
