Search for Owls by Van

Description

Late winter is a great time to look for owls because Massachusetts has the greatest diversity of species between nesting resident owls and migratory owls that have not started their northbound journey.

Climb into the van and spend an evening visiting the North Shore places where owls are known to frequent.

We'll start at a local salt marsh, looking for Short-eared Owls hunting low over the grass, then break in Ipswich for a sandwich and a hot drink before heading to woodland spots known for resident owls. At each stop look and listen for Eastern Screech-Owls, Barred Owls, Northern Saw-whet Owls, and Great Horned Owls.

Checking registration status.
