Description
As the sun goes down, Ipswich River comes alive with a different set of residents, and owls are among the most spectacular. Begin in the barn by examining real feathers, skulls, and talons to discover the remarkable adaptations that make these birds master hunters in the dark.
Then, head out into the fields and forests at dusk, listening and watching for Eastern Screech-owls, Barred Owls, and Great Horned Owls as they begin their evening hunt. A naturalist will guide you every step of the way, sharing owl calls, behaviors, and the best tricks for spotting them in the trees.
Afterward, the group will head back to the barn to dissect an owl pellet to discover exactly what these nighttime hunters have been eating. Whether or not an owl makes an appearance on the walk, this evening delivers the kind of close-up discovery that young naturalists carry with them for years.

Part of the evening is indoors in the barn and part is outdoors on sanctuary trails after dark, at an easy pace. Dress for cold winter evenings and wear sturdy, warm footwear.
