Birding by Canoe on the Ipswich River

Description

The slow, winding Ipswich River is one of the best places in Massachusetts to search for birds that can only be found by getting on the water. This guided canoe bird outing meanders up and down the river, making frequent stops to look and listen for the remarkable species that nest and raise their young along this freshwater corridor.

Watch for Virginia Rail, Sora, Yellow-throated Vireo, Great Crested Flycatcher, and a host of other wetland and woodland birds that are rarely glimpsed from the trail. Paddling quietly through the freshwater marsh, you'll access corners of the sanctuary that simply can't be reached on foot. Some canoeing experience is helpful; before you launch, your instructor will guide everyone through the basics of canoe safety and paddle technique, so you feel confident on the water. All equipment is provided.
