Worm Composting 101

Description

Discover the incredible world of earthworms and their vital role in building healthy soil. Led by a biological engineer, this hands-on workshop dives into the science of worm composting, a natural process that transforms organic waste into nutrient-rich soil while reducing landfill use and capturing carbon. You'll observe worm behavior up close, explore the biodiversity within living compost under a microscope, and learn practical ways to support soil restoration right at home.

You'll leave with your very own worm bin starter kit and a deeper understanding of how worms power a sustainable planet.

Instructor Maria Hottelet holds a Ph.D. in Immune Systems and Biological Engineering from MIT. Her teaching integrates her knowledge of immune systems, comparative biology and anatomy, initiatives for cleaner rivers and Boston Harbor, and community eco-restoration efforts.
