A Nature Year at Habitat - Winter Series (3 Months)
Description
Immerse yourself in a season of local natural history. With a skilled Mass Audubon naturalist as your guide, experience the cycle of the seasons at Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary in Belmont and gain extensive natural history knowledge--all while receiving the many benefits of spending time outdoors.
Each month, you will focus on a special topic, natural community, or seasonal phenomenon. As the temperatures drop, explore the different habitats to learn how animals survive in the cold weather, identify trees by their bark and buds, and learn how to decipher wildlife tracks in the snow. We will provide snowshoes and a lesson on how to use them on any date that falls on a day with recent deep snowfall. There might be an occasional change in timing or topic depending on what nature provides.
- December 3: Doze, Deal, or Ditch (winter survival)
- January 7: Winter Walk (snowshoes if possible) - Winter tree ID
- February 4: Winter Walk (snowshoes if possible) - Wildlife tracking
