Wild Weed Pesto

Description

Change the way you see (and taste) the plants around you, even the pesky ones! Together, we will walk through woods and fields, learning about the medicinal uses of so-called weeds. Baskets in hand, we will harvest samples as we go, bringing back a bounty of delicious and nutrient-dense greens to turn into pesto.

Along the way, learn how local weeds can soothe a hyperactive immune system, modulate the digestive tract, and regulate blood pressure. We will engage in a collaborative discussion about what it means to look towards our local plants for food as medicine, what it means for a plant to be a weed, and where humans belong in relationship to our ecosystem.

Please note that collecting plants outside of our community gardens is not generally allowed. This is a unique opportunity for our group to carefully gather some wild plants on the sanctuary under the guidance of an herbalist.
