Teen Birders: Winter Finch Quest

Description

Bundle up and grab your binoculars--this winter is shaping up to be excellent for finch fans! According to the Winter Finch Forecast, 2026 is expected to bring a major irruption of finches into Massachusetts as flocks travel south from Canada in search of food. That means we have a rare chance to see some of the flashiest and most exciting birds of the season.

From Drumlin Farm we'll hit the road, following eBird reports to search for colorful visitors like Pine Siskin, Purple Finch, Common Redpoll, and Evening Grosbeak. Finches may be the stars of the show, but we'll keep our eyes open for other winter specialties as well.
