Winter Birding on the Pond

Description

In winter, ponds are teeming with activity! During the coldest months, pockets of open water become a lifeline for a variety of birds and wildlife. Explore Horn Pond Recreation Area for diving aquatic birds like American Coot and Ring-necked Ducks, and Bald Eagles who are drawn to the pond by these small ducks. Songbirds like Winter Wren and Fox Sparrow also make use of the wooded or brushy shores, while edge habitats and community gardens may host rarities like Orange-crowned Warblers.

Weather cancellation date: Sunday January 25 or Saturday January 31 TBD
