New Year Birding Madness

Description

Start off your 2026 birding with a bang as we travel to the North Shore to record as many wintering sea and land birds as we can. By January 1st, some of the most of the soughtafter field birds can be spotted, including Snow Buntings, American Pipits, Lapland Longspurs, Rough-legged Hawk, Glaucous & Iceland gulls, Puffins & Dovekie, and unusual sea ducks like King Eider or Barrow's Goldeneye. Take in the stunning biodiversity of species to start the new birding year on a high note. There will be roughly two to three miles of walking throughout the day with frequent stops. The terrain will be mostly level; sand is to be expected, and roots and rocks may be in the paths.

Open to adults and anyone aged 16-17 accompanied by an adult.

Checking registration status.

Instructions

Meet at Drumlin Farm, where we will travel together in Mass Audubon vans. We'll stop for lunch, not included in fee, at a location to be determined depending on which species we target. Participants are also invited to bring their own lunch. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. We recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, and sunscreen. Bring your own optics or ask in advance to borrow a pair of ours. We will provide a large spotting scope for all to share.
