Description
Explore the evening sky for Common Nighthawks at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge! Neither solely nocturnal nor a hawk, this amazing member of the nightjar family has one of the longest migration routes of all North American birds. On an early fall evening, nighthawks can be spotted by their distinctive flight style and white wing stripes as they migrate over Massachusetts. We will look for these elegant fliers and listen for their unique call on a leisurely one-mile walk from the marsh to the river, also keeping an eye out for wading birds, rails, and other wildlife.
