Description
What can a bird's feathers, weight, and wing length reveal about its life? Get an up-close look at the birds of West Hill Dam in Uxbridge during a live banding demonstration to find out.
Watch and assist certified bird-bander, Strickland Wheelock, in safely capturing and banding birds ranging from finches to warblers to woodpeckers before releasing them back into the wild. Learn how this process allows researchers to determine a bird's age, health, and history, and how that information is used for conservation. You'll build your field ID skills and may even get the chance to release a newly banded bird yourself! After the banding, the group will explore local birding hot spots.
This program is also open to teens aged 14 and older accompanied by an adult.

Instructions
Transportation is provided to and from Drumlin Farm, or participants may choose to meet at the banding site in Uxbridge. Instructions will be sent to those participants who choose to meet at the site. We will walk approximately 2-3 miles throughout the day with frequent breaks and stop for lunch at a local restaurant (not included in price).
