Description
As cold weather arrives, pockets of open water become magnets for wildlife, and Horn Pond is the perfect place to view them. Scan the open water for diving ducks like Ring-necked Duck and American Coot and watch for the Bald Eagles drawn to the area by these gatherings.
Walk along the wooded and brushy shoreline for songbirds like Winter Wren and Fox Sparrow, and keep an eye out for rarities—edge habitats and community gardens nearby have been known to host surprises like Orange-crowned Warbler. The exciting wildlife and crisp fall air make for a peaceful morning excursion.

Bring binoculars if you have them or ask in advance to borrow a pair of ours. This is a three-mile walk on easy level paths with both paved and unpaved sections. Bring water and wear weather-appropriate clothing and shoes. Restrooms will be available at the nature center.
Horn Pond Recreation Area — meet at the boat launch parking lot at 50 Sturgis St, Woburn (additional parking along Sturgis Street).
