Description
Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is one of the premier inland birding destinations in eastern Massachusetts, and late fall is when it truly shines. Sweep through freshwater wetlands and wooded edges as you search for a stunning variety of migrating species and early winter arrivals.
Look for Golden-crowned Kinglets and Brown Creepers moving through the trees, scan the skies for a soaring Bald Eagle or Northern Harrier, and listen for a lingering Virginia Rail or wintering Barred Owl calling from the marsh. Soak in the fall weather as you connect with other teen nature enthusiasts.

Bring water and a snack. Bring binoculars if you have them or ask to borrow a pair. Dress in layers; wear footwear appropriate for both paved and unpaved paths. Restrooms are available on site. Drop-off and pickup at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge observation tower, Concord Unit, 179 Monsen Rd, Concord, MA.
