Think trees all look the same in winter? Think again! Without leaves to guide you, identifying trees becomes unique challenge. Explore the sanctuary and get experience recognizing local species by their bark, buds, and branching patterns. Along the way, learn about the adaptations that help trees survive the cold and see the winter woods with fresh eyes.

Instructions

Meet at the visitor center. Dress accordingly for the weather and wear appropriate footwear for hiking. We will mostly be outdoors; the paths we will take will have gentle inclines and may have roots or puddles. Bring binoculars and a hand lens if you have them or borrow a pair of ours.
