The expansive wetlands of Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord can be one of the most rewarding fall birding destinations in eastern Massachusetts.
Walk the refuge with a Boston Nature Center guide, scanning the marsh for secretive rails and bitterns tucked into the cattails, and watching the open water for dabbling and diving ducks arriving for the season.
Bald Eagles hunt the refuge year-round, and fall migration makes every visit worth the effort. Whether you're new to birding or building your life list, this morning will deliver sightings and wonder.

If you would like to carpool, meet at Boston Nature Center at 7:00 AM sharp. Space in the Mass Audubon van is available (6 people max) or follow in your own vehicle. If meeting at the refuge, park in the larger lot off Monsen Rd. in Concord—not the smaller lot near the bathrooms. An email will go out closer to the walk date to confirm carpool logistics.
Dress for the weather and bring binoculars. This program takes place outdoors; in the case of inclement weather, every effort will be made to reschedule.
