The Secret Life of Urban Owls

Description

When darkness falls over Boston, silent wings slice through the air. Owls, our city's stealthy nocturnal hunters, are on the prowl, keeping rodent populations in check and maintaining the delicate balance of urban ecosystems.

Dissect real owl pellets, carefully extracting clues about the small mammals and creatures that make up an owl's diet. Then head out to the trails with a Teacher Naturalist and learn how to scan tree cavities, search for whitewash stains on bark, and listen for distinctive owl calls echoing through the forest canopy.

As the sun sets and shadows lengthen, participants will understand why preserving mature trees, maintaining meadow edges, and protecting quiet corners matters. These aren't just nice features of a park, they're important hunting grounds that allow owls to survive in the city.
