Black History Month Hike

Description

The commemoration of Black history goes back 100 years when the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History was founded in 1915. In 1925 Dr. Carter G. Woodson inaugurated Negro History Week. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has continued that tradition.

In 1986, Congress passed Public Law 99-244 designating February as Black History Month, mindful that February is the birth month of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

Mass Audubon celebrates Black History Month with a hike at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary led by John Green, photographer, naturalist, and bird expert. Join us for a walk to experience the quiet and beauty of the winter woods. We'll be looking for animal tracks in the snow as well as hawks overhead.
