Winter Crows & Their Springfield Roost

Description

Every evening around sunset, more than 7,000 crows stream into an urban roost in Springfield, one of the largest gatherings in Massachusetts. Watch the crows come in to roost and learn more about how they've gotten their reputation for intelligence and mystery.

Start indoors at Arcadia with a presentation on crow intelligence and behavior, then carpool to Springfield to watch the birds arrive. Standing under a sky full of crows is the kind of wildlife spectacle most people never realize is happening just a few miles from home.

Paying close attention to a bird this common is a good reminder that remarkable things are going on all around us, and that they are worth protecting.

What To Expect

The program begins with an indoor presentation at Arcadia and then moves to a roost site in Springfield. Plan to drive or carpool from Arcadia. The exact roost location can shift from night to night, so the Springfield meeting spot will be emailed about a day before beforehand and updated if it changes. The outdoor portion is spent standing and watching in one place

More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
