A Naturalist's Winter Walk

Description

A walk in the quiet winter woods rewards anyone willing to look closely. Before setting out, watch the birds at the feeders through the picture window at the Visitor Center, then head onto the trails with a naturalist to see what the season has left hidden in plain sight.

Look for signs of insects overwintering under tree bark, tracks pressed into snow and mud, and snow fleas scattered across the surface of the snow. Winter strips the landscape down to its structure, which makes it one of the best seasons to notice what you walk past the rest of the year.

Come away with a more complete understanding of your local woods and the how to read the landscape like a naturalist.
