Description
Massachusetts was almost entirely cleared of its forests by the 19th century. Today, roughly 60% of the state is forested again—one of the most remarkable environmental recoveries in American history. This half-day program traces that arc, exploring how land use, agriculture, and development shaped the forests we see today, and what climate change means for their future.
Through presentations and time outdoors on the sanctuary trails, you'll explore the ecological, cultural, and conservation dimensions of forests in Massachusetts. Come away with a clearer understanding of what these forests are, how they got here, and what you can do to help protect them.
