Description
Perched above the Deerfield River Valley, High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary commands views that stretch for miles—but the forest surrounding the summit has its own story to tell. This walk focuses on the northern hardwood trees that make High Ledges distinctive: sugar and striped maples, yellow birch, American beech, as well as other trees including oaks, pines, hickories, each with their own role in the ecosystem.
A skilled naturalist will guide you through tree identification while connecting the forest's story to the broader context of climate change and what it means for Massachusetts forests going forward.
