New to birding? Join us for an immersive introductory weekend in finding, observing, and identifying birds. While beginner-focused, this course is also great for intermediate birders looking for a refresher or another look at coastal birds.

Spring birdng on Cape Cod offers incredible diversity. Lingering winter species mingle with northbound warblers, hawks, and shorebirds and returning breeding birds. Several field trips will explore the best birding hotspots the Outer Cape has to offer.

Throughout the weekend we will focus on practicing skills in the field, identifying birds through observation and song, as well as begin to understand the unique adaptations, biology, and life histories of these coastal birds. An introduction to the resources available to birders will also be provided. This weekend course also features a unique bird banding demonstration with Certified Master Bander James Junda. There is nothing as exciting as seeing a bird up-close and in-hand! For all of the trips be prepared for spending time in a variety of natural habitats-open beach and salt marsh environments to forests and fields-so dress appropriately. Please bring binoculars, dress in layers and for the weather, and pack water and a lunch (or bring money to purchase). Field guides are helpful; spotting scope optional.
