Visit Joppa Flats' Bird Banding Station on Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and observe the bird banding process. Mass Audubon scientists capture, evaluate, and release migrant songbirds while you learn about migration and habitat use. Don't miss this rare opportunity -- the station operates only during the height of migration in spring (April and May) and fall (September and October) and is very weather dependent.

Instructions and Directions:

Meet at the Subquarters parking lot on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. A volunteer guide will meet you there and walk you in to the station. The walk is about 100 yards on a flat dirt road. The program will be stationary at that point, and you will remain at the banding shed, with no additional walking required. Please dress for tick safety, and consider bringing bug spray as we will be in a wooded area. Bathrooms are available at the Subheadquarters lot.
