Search the salt marsh and dunes around the mouth of the Merrimack River for raptors of all types. We hope to see Bald Eagle, Snowy Owl, Red-tailed and Rough-legged hawks, Northern Harrier, Peregrine Falcon, and maybe more. We will also check out any other birds and mammals that we encounter.
Learn about raptors, how they survive the winter here, and what their day-to-day lives are like in the frozen northland. The Merrimack River estuary is a renowned location for winter raptors, and we will do our best to see as many species as well as possible. Oh, and we will also have fun.
Meet at Joppa Flats Education Center. From there we will travel by Mass Audubon vans and carpool.
Masks are required in Mass Audubon vehicles. Masks indoors are optional as long as a county is noted as having moderate or low levels of transmission; however, they are required if county transmission levels are high.
Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and the terrain. Bring a field guide, binoculars, snacks, and a scope if you have one. Masks are optional outdoors.
Mass Audubon Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel less than seven days prior to the program, refunds cannot be issued. If we cancel the program, you will be refunded in full.
