Visit live animals in the riverside yard at Joppa Flats! You'll rotate through our tented stations at your own pace, and may choose to spend your time handling tide pool creatures such as sea urchins and sea stars, meeting moon snails and hermit crabs from the sandy beach, and/or learning about minnows and horseshoe crabs from the salt marsh. We'll also introduce you to our 'seasonal specials' that our interns are raising for release. You might even see praying mantis hatchlings, monarch caterpillars, or American toadlets!
Tuesdays and Fridays from July 1 through August 19.
Four sessions each time:
A - 10:00-10:45 am
B - 11:00-11:45 am
C - 1:00-1:45 pm
D - 2:00-2:45 pm
This program requires preregistration. Choose your date, then your time.
Instructions and Directions:
This is not a drop-off class. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult, and all adults are expected to participate in the program.
Meet at Joppa Flats Education Center. Dress for the weather; use protection from the sun and biting insects. Program details will be forwarded in advance with details about what to expect and what to bring.
If you must withdraw from the program, please let us know so we can open your space to others.
