Joppa Flats is recognized for mentoring teens in environmental study, interpretation for the public, and coastal awareness. Project LEAD (Lead, Educate, be Aware, & Discover) expands knowledge, abilities, and citizen science participation to increase positive impacts on the environment. Projects could include shorebird monitoring, beach grass planting, marine invasive species data collection, and more. When we can, we'll offer various field trips on weekends for an additional fee, with topics that could include marine mammal research via whale watch, marine plankton study via river cruise, or water samplings as we spend a day rowing on the Merrimack River. Your teen will get lots of fieldwork experience alongside our naturalists and researchers as well as valuable community service hours.
