Explore the natural world with your camera lens and create a portfolio of your own wildlife photography while having fun outdoors! With a special guest photographer, you'll spend a bit of each day learning how digital cameras work and tricks of the trade before heading outdoors to practice your new skills. Investigate a different local habitat each day to capture various kinds of light, textures, and creatures, while we combine science, art, technology, and fun!
Tuesday: Forest Photography
It's spring and the forest is awakening! You'll take a forest hike through Maudslay State Park and use science tools like binoculars, field microscopes, and nature guides while finding photo subjects hiding under logs, building nests, and hunting for food.
Wednesday: Birds through the Lens
Learn all about returning songbirds and how scientists study them at Joppa Flats' bird banding station, which provides great opportunities to photograph birds up close. Then we'll scout forests, beaches, and wetlands of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for additional photo subjects.
Thursday: Focus on Raptors
Let's see how many raptor species we can spot on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge as we climb observation towers and use a bird blind. A live raptor presentation at Joppa Flats by a rehabilitator gives you a chance to photograph raptors indoors and in-the-hand.
Friday: Tide Pool Photography
Discover tidal wildlife, such as hermits, crabs, snails, and more, on a tide-pooling excursion to beautiful Plum Island. We'll use video and photos to create a vivid slideshow to showcase the marine biodiversity in the tide pools.
