Spend the day looking for rare birds in Rhode Island! Rhode Island attracts a wide range of rarities from Black-tailed and black-headed gulls, Barnacle and Pink-footed geese, Eurasian widgeons, Black Vulture, and Tufted Duck to other less common species like Barrow's Goldeneye, Short-eared Owl, and Canvasback. This trip will be designed to pick up as many of the known rarities in one day. We aim to find a variety of wintering passerines that frequent all the thickets along the coast and close to 20 species of ducks.
1. Meet at Drumlin Farm, where we will travel together in Mass Audubon vans. All participants riding in a Mass Audubon vehicle must be masked and present their vaccination record - actual or photo. Masks are optional when not in vans.
2. We'll stop for lunch, not included in fee, at a location to be determined depending on which species we target. Participants are also invited to bring their own lunch.
3. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, sun protection, good walking shoes, water, and snacks. Trip leaders will be bringing scopes.
