Migration Stations Coming to Tidmarsh and Daniel Webster

October 09, 2025

Each October, fall migration reaches its peak as countless birds journey south along the Atlantic Flyway. The rich wetlands, open fields, and abundant food sources found at Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries provide essential stopover habitats attracting a wide variety of migratory species.

As birdwatchers and conservationists stop to capture a glimpse of the diverse flocks passing through, Mass Audubon staff and volunteers will be hosting Migration Stations every Friday in October starting at 9:30 am at Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Plymouth and Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary in Marshfield to answer your questions about the fall migration and share information on how you can get involved in Mass Audubon’s work to protect the nature of Massachusetts.

The South Shore boasts a rich variety of habitats essential for migrating birds. At Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary, expansive grasslands provide prime hunting grounds for raptors and essential foraging areas for grassland species.

Nearby, Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary offers a diverse mosaic of ponds, cold-water streams, red maple and Atlantic white cedar swamps, open meadows, and pine-oak forests—critical feeding habitat for warblers, waterbirds, and countless other migratory species.
