Lost Farm Trail

The Lost Farm Trail links Lost Meadow and Old Road Trails. Take the connecting Lost Pines Trail to Nantucket Land Bank’s Millbrook Woods and Heritage Orchard. Large swaths of Pitch Pine thickets and dense understory provide forest cover for a variety of birds including Downy Woodpeckers, Pine Warblers, and Great Crested Flycatchers.

Lost Pines Trail

The Lost Pines Trail links the Lost Farm Trail to the northeastern end of the Hummock Pond Trail. Dense understory of blueberry and viburnum with larger Pitch Pine thickets supply cover for wildlife such as cottontail rabbits and eastern gray squirrels. This trail provides two access points to the Old Road Trail. 

Hummock Pond Trail

The Hummock Pond Trail is the longest trail at Lost Farm Wildlife Sanctuary. It spans multiple habitats, including Pitch Pine forest, open shrublands, and pine woodlands. Along this trail, there are numerous views of Hummock Pond to enjoy. Be on the lookout for the Osprey nest that is visible from the trail; it is one of the few natural Osprey tree nests on the island. The Hummock Pond Trail is part of the Nantucket Cross Island Hike.

Catbird Connector

The Catbird Connector Trail links the Nantucket Land Bank’s Gardner Farm equestrian trail with Lost Farm Wildlife Sanctuary. Visitors can access the Old Road and Hummock Pond Trails via the Catbird Connector. NOTE: Horseback riding is not allowed within Mass Audubon’s Lost Farm Wildlife Sanctuary. 

Old Road Trail

The Old Road Trail is a historic municipal road that runs along the southeast border of the sanctuary. The northern extent of this trail runs into Millbrook Road. Look for insect pollinators that use milkweed and flowering shrubs along this corridor. 

Lost Meadow Trail

The Lost Meadow Trail runs through the middle of Lost Farm Sanctuary and parallels the mid-section of the Hummock Pond Trail. This trail winds through Pennsylvania Sedge grasslands and passes the only known White Pine Tree on the sanctuary.
