Be Your Own Guide

If you want to set your own pace, Ipswich River features 12 miles of trails, a nature play area, and a Nature Center for exploration and discovery. At the Visitor Center, pick up Bingo and Scavenger Hunt Cards, as well as a Bird Checklist, to make your visit a little more exciting.

Path lined with tall trees

As you explore the sanctuary, don’t miss the meadows with native plants and bird nesting boxes. Along the trails, you'll notice the distinct topographical features of drumlins and eskers. These glacial formations tell the story of the last Ice Age, with drumlins resembling mounds and eskers creating long, winding ridges. Finally, the namesake river meanders through the sanctuary, follow its banks where you may spot turtles swimming or birds wading in search of their next meal.

Expand Homeschool Learning

Prepare to explore nature using a magnifying glass or binoculars! Every homeschool session becomes an exciting field trip, encouraging participants to utilize new tools and discover the wonders of the natural world through hands-on scientific exploration.

Volunteering: Lend a Hand

Volunteers help the sanctuary hum. Spend time outdoors while working with staff to maintain trails, remove invasive species, educate visitors about the sanctuary's ecology, care for native pollinator gardens, help with special events, and more.
