From September 3rd to October 31st, Mass Audubon’s Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary will feature the visual works of a local art collective led by Janet Amphlett and Fay Hannon.
About the Exhibition
This group of artists has been meeting monthly since 2004, and with the current members since 2011. Artists bring their work to the monthly gatherings and share feedback and support in artistic endeavors as well as in life. The art on exhibit will feature portraits, landscapes, and abstractions in a variety of 2-dimensional media.
About the Artists
Fay Hannon is the founder of the artist collective and paints in oil. Her work is representational and full of color. She paints landscapes and people doing things. She lives in Cambridge.
Janet Amphlett painted her first oil painting at the age of eight in her grandmother's garden. She likes to trudge out into the dunes of Provincetown or other beautiful places and respond to the light, colors, and the passage of time through paint.
Jeannette Atkinson has been painting since 2003, when she took her first drawing class at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. She paints everything but abstractions, and tries to surprise herself with color, composition, or perspective.
Emily Cole has always enjoyed drawing people but as she grows older, she paints more in color and line as a way of loving the world.
Camille Musser is a painter who also works with textiles. She loves working with rich tropical colors, making quilts, dolls and paintings that focus on the Caribbean. Camille grew up in the Caribbean on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She is also a member of Turtle Studios.
Roz Sommer paints very expressively in oil or gouache. Luscious paint and vigorous brushwork are passions. Her work Is a response to memory, personal experiences, as well as intimate and far-reaching surroundings. She maintains studios in Cambridge and Deer Isle, ME.
Amy Stein paints watercolor landscapes, portraits, interiors and still life. Many of her landscapes are inspired by places we look to for refuge and solace. She lives in Cambridge.
