Two-week Nature Camps

Two-week sessions from July 1–August 23 (no camp on July 4)
Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–3:30 pm

Age Groups

Pathfinders • Ages 4–5 (Entering Pre-K–K)

Counselor-to-camper ratio: 1 to 5

Choose a path to follow and uncover Habitat’s secret places. Go on a hike to search for critters in the places where they live and grow. Learn what makes different animals unique and what we have in common with them. Pathfinders must be age 4 by June 1.

Explorers • Ages 6–9 (Entering Grades 1–4)

Counselor-to-camper ratio: 1 to 5 for age 6, 1 to 8 for ages 7–9

Stroll to Turtle Pond, peer under logs, hide in the meadow, and climb through the forest layers. Find out who lives in all of Habitat’s different habitats and the adaptations animals and plants have to survive. Engage in a variety of activities, such as nature crafts, cooking, outdoor skills, science experiments, and fun games. Finish the day with camp songs and silly stories.

Ecologists • Ages 10–12 (Entering Grades 5–7)

Deepen your understanding of how nature works by taking a closer look at soil, water, plants, and animal populations. Discover how animals and plants are connected to their environment in a fascinating web of life. 

Be a steward of the sanctuary by participating in conservation activities such as invasive species removal and bird box monitoring. Embark on a field trip to explore a new habitat. Complete the experience with an all-day hike on nearby conversation land and an overnight campout at the wildlife sanctuary.

The field trip occurs on the first Thursday and the on-site overnight component takes place on the second Thursday of each session. Camp begins at 9:00 am on Thursday and ends at 9:00 am on Friday. Habitat Nature Camp provides tents, dinner, and breakfast for all campers during the overnight.

One-week Nature Theme Camps

Monday–Friday, June 24–28 • 9:00 am–3:30 pm

Slime & Scale • Ages 4–5 (Entering Pre-K–K)

Counselor-to-camper ratio: 1 to 5

Slither, slide, fly, hide. From slugs to turtles, discover why slime and scale are important for survival. Explore Habitat’s forests and ponds in search of slimy and scaley creatures. Campers must be age 4 by June 1.

Digging in the Dirt • Ages 6–9 (Entering grades 1–4)

Counselor-to-camper ratio: 1 to 5 for age 6, 1 to 8 for ages 7–9

Roll logs and look for decomposers. Sow a seed and give it water. Pull some weeds and tidy the garden beds. Learn about the different parts of plants that we eat and harvest some for a healthy treat.

Extended-Day Option

Pre-registration is required for extended day programming; you may add this option at registration checkout or call later to add to your camper's session. Sliding scale pricing also applies to extended-day programming.

After Camp Program

3:30–5:30 pm • Ages 4–14 (Entering Pre-K–grade 9)

This optional extended-day program is available to our full-day, two-week, and theme-week session attendees. Campers are given a snack and can choose from activities such as hiking, free play, arts and crafts, and nature games. 

Teen Programs

Trekkers • Ages 12–14 (Entering grades 7–9)

Expand your horizons and discover habitats beyond Habitat! Go hiking and camping to investigate the geologic history of New England. Examine how our landscape has been shaped and how it continues to change. Explore nearby areas on day trips, then broaden your knowledge on three-day, two-night camping trips, leaving Habitat on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am and returning by 3:30 pm on Friday. Habitat Nature Camp provides allergen-free meals and tents.

Campers may register for only one two-week session:

Sessions 1 & 3: Cape Cod & Connecticut
Sessions 2 & 4: Western Mass & Mount Cardigan

Counselors-in-Training (CITs) • Ages 15–16 (Entering Grades 10–11)

Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Do you enjoy working with children? Gain valuable leadership experience and community service hours as you assist our teachers in directing nature activities and supervising campers enrolled in our Pathfinders and Explorers programs. CITs play games, read stories, participate in skits, and prepare materials for activities. Each CIT has the opportunity to lead an activity with campers.

CITs must participate in training and be available for at least one two-week camp session. CITs will receive additional information and forms upon registration. Please contact the Camp Director with questions.

Required training for all CITs: June 24–28 (9:00 am–3:30 pm)

2024 Camp Session Pricing

Mass Audubon is committed to ensuring that every family that wants their child to experience summer camp should have the opportunity to do so. A sliding scale model helps us work toward that goal through an easy and dependable process for families. With the sliding scale structure, every family enrolls for camp at a tuition rate based on their annual gross income and size of family.

Mass Audubon Membership

Registering for camp is one of the many benefits of Mass Audubon membership. In order to register for camp, your membership must be current through the end of your camper's last session; if you need to purchase or renew your membership, you should do so as part of your camp registration transaction.

All camp families registering at Tiers 1–3 will receive a free one-year Family membership (new or renewal), thanks to the generosity of members at the Protector level and higher who chose to donate their free gift membership benefit.

Review Sliding Scale Tiers

Due to overwhelming need for financial assistance, we have closed registration for Tiers 1-3. Tier 4 Registration is still available by phone only. If you are unable to pay the Tiers 4 or 5 tuition for camp, we encourage you to add your name to our waitlist. As we continue to secure funding across the state, we will open more spaces at lower tiers where possible.

Our statewide goal is to have a healthy balance of campers from all income tiers attend Mass Audubon camps in order to increase equitable access to camp for as many families as possible while still securing enough revenue to continue providing the excellent camp experience our communities have come to expect from Mass Audubon camps.
