A New Book

Many of the most important birds in the history of decoy-making were made in Massachusetts. Their aesthetic quality is unmatched, as is the diversity of style employed by their makers. This is the definitive book on the subject, providing fresh perspectives, new research and stunning photographs of forty-nine beautifully crafted birds.

Massachusetts Masterpieces is unique among decoy books: a lavishly produced art book combined with important, new historical material. Seventeen carvers are profiled, accompanied by thirty-six never-before-published historical photographs.

The book was developed from the acclaimed 2013 exhibition at the Museum of American Bird Art which brought together an unrivaled group of carvings from some of the finest private and museum collections in the country.

Gigi Hopkins is a conservator of painted wood antiques, specializing in decoys. Over her fifty-year career, she has researched, written, lectured and curated exhibitions on the subject.
