Bring your students to the Museum of American Bird Art Education Center to explore the permeability of a Mass Audubon sanctuary that is surrounded by a forest! Students will conduct hands-on experiments to investigate which type of ground is most effective at filtering runoff, test the water for pollution, and observe indicator species such as fairy shrimp and dragonflies. Using evidence from a landscape model they created, students will work to support a claim about the role of weathering, erosion, and deposition in a landform and summarize how typical weather conditions are changing over time, with storms becoming more intense.
