Birding and Migration Field Trip Series (3-5)
Pre-visit (1-hour): Take your class on a multimedia ‘;virtual tour’ of our bird-banding station. Students will learn how to read a migration map and practice bird identification using field guides.
Field Trip (2-3 hours): See the awe in your students as they witness live birds being banded, identified, weighed, measured, and released. Your class will use binoculars on a birding walk to find a variety of songbirds, waterfowl, wading birds, and more.
Post-visit (1-hour): Back in the classroom, students will use banding tools to weigh and measure life-size bird models. Work in small teams to test their survival skills with a group role-play challenge that highlights the challenges birds face during migration.
