Survival in Ecosystems Field Trip Series

School-based introductory program followed by a field trip with a final wrap-up lesson at your school.

Intro School Program (one-hour): Explore organisms and their survival strategies in their natural habitats. Discovery activities for meadow, forest, and wetland are available, depending on the ecosystems and habitats available in your schoolyard. Choose a stand-alone program focusing on a single ecosystem type or a series focusing on different ecosystems each session.

Field Trip (multi-hour): Students will investigate three different ecosystems found at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. Observe field, forest, and pond organisms and gather data on the physical structures that allow them to survive and thrive.

Follow-up School Program (one-hour): Students conclude the series with a series of activities, investigations and discussion routines in which they will demonstrate their understanding of the adaptive traits and behaviors of organisms in our local ecosystems and how those adaptations allow for individuals and populations to survive in their habitats.
