Our Incredible Wildlife: Habitats & Adaptations

Bring your science curriculum to life with experiential learning! Through two interactive classroom lessons led by a Mass Audubon educator, your students will discover animal habitats and adaptations through hands-on exploration of turtle shells, porcupine quills, 3D-printed skull replicas, feathers, owl pellets, and more. Then, give your students the chance to apply their learning outdoors with a field trip to Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton. During the trip, Mass Audubon educators will guide students through an exploration of habitats including a forest, field, vernal pool, and river. Students will have the opportunity to use scientific tools including binoculars, fielding nets, hand lenses, and bug boxes to investigate the animals and plants living in these habitats. Students will also meet and observe live animal ambassadors, gaining firsthand insight into how these species have adapted to their environments over time.
