Wildwood Camp: Teen Adventure Trip - Explore the Appalachian Trail
Description
Set off on some of the world's most famous hiking trails as were explore the Taconic and Berkshire ranges during this intermediate backpacking trek. Hike the stunning mountains that dominate the skyline of Western Massachusetts and take advantage of the endless opportunities for personal growth and meaningful time in nature afforded by wilderness travel with friends.
The Appalachian Mountains can be very rugged and weather conditions can be unpredictable and change rapidly. We will be hiking up to 10 miles per day wearing a pack that could weigh 30-40 pounds. The hiking trails will have steep grades and mild exposure and terrain may be rocky and uneven. Prior hiking or camping experience is preferred.
Teen Adventure Trips focus on developing a love of the outdoors. Teen Adventure Trips begin with a half-day of team-building and orientation at Wildwood Camp. Groups then travel to destinations around the Northeast. Along the way, they'll participate in a variety of outdoor adventures, learn the basics of Leave No Trace camping and trekking, and may meet with conservation professionals to participate in hands on environmental study or service. Participants practice skills in outdoor living, and develop a knowledge of the region's natural history.
Wildwood Camp is committed to providing a joyful and inclusive experience for all campers. Groups are small with two leaders and 5-8 teens. Trek campers will be assigned in 3+ person tents based on their requests and conversations with staff. There may be tent groups that are mixed gender based on these requests. Mass Audubon utilizes electronic submission of health forms through CampDoc.com. Within 48 hours of registering, CampDoc will invite you to create a profile. Your login will be the email address of parent/guardian from the first page. Please notify the office of any changes. Health forms need to be completed by May 1st. The Camp Handbook with packing list can be found on our website, updated each spring.
A $150 deposit per week is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due by May 1st. The deposit is non-refundable. Refunds are not given for participant dismissal, failure to attend, absence, or sick days. If the camp must cancel a session, you will receive a full refund. If you need to cancel on or before May 1st, a refund of all but the $150 non-refundable deposit will be made. After May 1st, no refund is available.
