Description
Experience the bird banding research project at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary with this 20-minute visit to the banding station.
Wellfleet Bay has a long history of monitoring bird populations through banding, most notably the research done by Dr. Oliver Austin, Jr. from 1928-1958. In 2014, we re-established a project to study the migration of songbirds managed by James Junda, Licensed Master Bander. Come meet James and the rest of the research team and learn about banding methods and the value of this work. Because the welfare of the birds is our priority, we cannot guarantee live birds will be observed in-the-hand.
These brief tours are free, offered as part of our special event Flock Party!
The banding station is accessible to wheelchairs and other mobility equipment. Additional seating is available upon request. If you have questions or if you would like to discuss any accommodations, please contact the sanctuary at 508-349-2615.
