Birding at The Mount - Spring Migration

Description

Explore Edith Wharton's original estate, including its woods, wetlands, and meadows. Learn skills to find and identify migrating and resident birds during this casual, beginner-friendly walk. Our walk will focus on the basics of bird-finding and identification as well as observing the behavior of the birds we can see. We will pause and enjoy observing birds rather than focusing on maintaining an intensive list of every bird in the area. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a loaner pair from us.

Trail distance covered during the bird walk could vary significantly depending on how many birds we see. This program typically covers up to 1.2 miles on an unsurfaced trail. The trail surface is largely flat with a few gentle inclines, but can be uneven at points or contain tripping hazards such as exposed tree roots or rocks. The trail surface could be wet or muddy depending on recent weather.

Pre-registration is required so we can maintain group sizes that are conducive to birdwatching.
