On the Flyway: Shorebird Migration at Duxbury Beach

Description

Duxbury Beach sits within the Plymouth-Duxbury Bays Important Bird Area, a stretch of coast that regularly supports more than 1,000 shorebirds at a time and hosts nesting Piping Plovers alongside multiple tern species.

On this adult-focused program, explore the shoreline, dunes, and tidal zones in search of migrating plovers, sandpipers, and terns, while a naturalist explains the science of migration, feeding ecology, breeding behavior, and the conservation pressures that make these populations so vulnerable.

It's an opportunity to experience world-class shore birding—and to understand exactly what's at stake for these birds.

Mass Audubon is grateful for the generosity of the Duxbury Beach Reservation Inc. for funding this program and for their service and dedication to protecting the critical resource we know as Duxbury Beach.
