Signs of the Chase: A Predator-Prey Walk at Duxbury Beach

Description

The predator-prey dynamics playing out on Duxbury Beach determine whether threatened shorebirds can successfully raise chicks or not.

On this guided walk, search the shoreline and dunes for the tracks, scat, feeding marks, and behavioral clues left behind by gulls, coyotes, foxes, crabs, and the birds they pursue. Learn how the surge of certain predator populations due to human activity has placed additional pressure on already-vulnerable shorebird species, and how conservation teams monitor and respond.

Mass Audubon is grateful for the generosity of the Duxbury Beach Reservation Inc. for funding this program and for their service and dedication to protecting the critical resource we know as Duxbury Beach.
