WaterWatch Lecture Series: Building the Resilience of Eelgrass

Description

Join us for our kickoff lecture to learn about the resilience of eelgrass meadows from North Carolina to Maine. Eelgrass is the foundation of our coastal ecosystems, supporting fisheries, improving water quality, and protecting shorelines, but it is increasingly threatened by warming oceans and human pressures. How can eelgrass survive and recover in a changing climate?

We are excited to welcome Dr. Alyssa Novak, Ph.D., coastal ecologist and Research Assistant Professor at Boston University. Dr. Novak's research focuses on the structure, function, and resilience of coastal systems, with a particular emphasis on seagrass ecosystems. She will share cutting-edge insights into the traits that allow eelgrass to resist and rebound from environmental stressors, as well as strategies for protecting and restoring these critical habitats.
