Amenities and Accessibility Features
- Accessible parking, along with a designated drop-off location, is available. This event will take place outside in the Harbor Overlook Field, which is approximately 300 feet from the parking area. The pathway to the field consists of paved surfaces, well-packed crushed stone, and grass.
- A large event tent will be set up on the relatively flat grass field. Individual pop-up tents will be set up for Disability Community member exhibit tables around the perimeter of the field. Seating will be available under the main tent, with additional seating areas available at ADA-accessible picnic tables and the Discovery Center's brick patio.
- Universally accessible restrooms are located in the Discovery Center, which is approximately 150 feet from the event tent. An ADA-compliant portable toilet is also available near the parking lot.
- If you bring a service animal, please keep in mind that this is a wildlife sanctuary. We ask you to make sure your service animal is restrained during the event. Also, we will have a designated water bowl and relief area for service animals.
- Long Pasture's adaptive equipment, including a GRIT Freedom Chair, Rollator All-Terrain Walker, Beach Wheelchair, and seat cane are available for reservation. Please call the Sanctuary at 508-362-7475 or email [email protected] to reserve any of these items, or to ask any questions you have about accommodations.
Guided All Persons Trail Explorations
- During these 30-minute explorations, participants will join a naturalist for a leisurely journey along the All Persons Trail. All explorations will begin with keynote remarks by Jerry Berrier of the Perkins School for the Blind, highlighting Mass Audubon's APT creation techniques and their built-in accessibility features. Our pace will be slow to take in the sights and sounds of birds and other wildlife.
- The trail covers a 0.36-mile loop exploring five habitat types: field, tidal flats, salt marsh, forest, and freshwater pond. The trail is largely flat, is surfaced with well-packed crushed stone, has six seating areas, and is suitable for use by most wheelchairs and other mobility devices. A navigational post-and-rope guide system with braille signage encompasses a large section of this loop trail. Nine enrichment stops with tactile displays are planned to offer a chance to learn more about the natural history of the sanctuary. We will begin and end at the Discovery Center.
