Mattahunt Woods hosts nine acres of forested wetlands in Mattapan, permanently protected through community action in 2008 and recently improved with new trails and native plantings. Explore this local greenspace on flat, easy paths with a Boston Nature Center naturalist, searching for Narrow-winged Damselflies and Red-winged Blackbirds in the wetland margins while learning about the plants that thrive in this unique forest ecosystem.
Along the way, learn the story of how this land was saved and restored, and explore the deep cultural and historic connections our community shares with its natural spaces.

Instructions
Meet at the Itasca Street entrance (249 Itasca Street, Mattapan). The trails are flat and easy to walk. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a water bottle.
