Community Science in Action: Using eBird to Protect Grassland Birds
Description
Join us at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary for a deep dive into the world of eBird! eBird is among the world's largest biodiversity-related science projects. The tool allows bird enthusiasts to deepen their own knowledge of birds while logging their observations in a dataset that powers new approaches to avian conservation. Whether you are new to eBird or simply want to learn more about how this community science tool is being used to support on-the-ground habitat management work, this program is for you! We will begin with a short outdoor eBird demonstration, then discuss the tool's value to science, recent collaborative work that used eBird records to identify priority fields for grassland bird conservation, and how you can help us collect high quality bird data at Arcadia and across western Massachusetts. This program is supported in part by the Cornell Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative.
