You've started to notice more closely the familiar and intriguing birds in your backyard, on your commute, or outside your window-now you want to know more. This online series will introduce you to the birdwatching basics, from how to identify different bird families to various tools and resources at your disposal. Find out what makes birds unique in the animal kingdom; where and how to locate birds in urban, suburban, and rural communities; and learn about basic bird biology and behavior. Learn from the experts at Mass Audubon so you can join one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America.

November 8: Bird Behaviors

November 15: Birding by Ear

November 22: Bird Conservation & You

November 29: Reflections, Questions, and Answers

Optional, self-directed birdwatching exercises will be suggested in between topics each week. You'll have an opportunity to share images and stories from your weekly birdwatching experiences and adventures in the final class meeting.

Instructions and Directions:

You will receive the Microsoft Teams Link to log into the program in your confirmation. An email reminder will also be sent to you 24 hours before program start.

Optional review session will be offered at 7:00pm on 4/21 where you're invited to share your experiences in the field and ask questions.

While not a requirement for this online course or general bird observation, binoculars make it easier to see subtle visual details used in identification. We'll cover what to look for when purchasing binoculars in our Tools & Resources week. Purchasing can be done at many large retailers, as well as online and in store at the Mass Audubon Shop.
